Grags and Zags show up in loss

Marc-Andre Gragnani scored a goal and assist and Marek Zagrapan had a goal as Portland lost to Worcester, 3-2. The pair were the only Pirates in the “plus” column (+1).

While on a two-man advantage, Gragnani whistled a shot past Taylor Dakers to tie the game 1-1 with less than a minute to go in the second period.

Zagrapan scored his eighth of the year when he entered the zone, skated through a hit, then deked the goalie before slipping the puck into the open goal.

The Rundown:
Gragnani: 1G, 1A, +1
Zagrapan: 1G, +1
Mancari: 1A
Kennedy: 2 SOG
Hunter: -2, 2 PIM
Kostka: 4 SOG
Whitmore: 1 SOG
Schutz: 1 SOG
Weber: 1 SOG
Enroth: 31 saves, L

With Zagrapan having a hot hand, do you suspect he earns a callup soon?

  2. He has been stepping up of late. It would seem that there’d be no harm giving him a skate. Given Ruff’s comments last night, if he and Regier think Zagrapan would give effort and an offensive spark, it could be possible. Let’s put it at 60% as of right now. Kennedy played well in his call-up as a LW, and is probably more of the long term fix at this point.

This may be a difficult question to answer, but it’s been said quite a bit lately how Gerbe, Kennedy, and Mancari aren’t gonna come up and save this team, which I can agree with at this point in time, but if there is a single prospect or a combination of a few prospects that we have now in Portland, Europe, or Juniors, who would you say are the ones that come up and make that much of an impact that we’ll be back on the winning track again?
