11/9 Recap: Lieuwen loses; Leduc blanked in sweep

Nathan Lieuwen made 35 stops Wednesday but Kootenay endured a third period collapse en route to a 5-4 loss to Tri-City. Leading 3-1 with 11:30 to play, the ICE allowed four goals in a span of four minutes and was unable to recover for their second straight defeat. The five goals against is a season-high for Lieuwen, who sees his record dip to 10-3-1-2 with a 1.85 GAA and .936 save percentage. The ICE will host Seattle on Saturday.

In Vancouver, Mark Pysyk was whistled for three minor penalties as Edmonton dropped a 4-1 decision to the Giants. The Oil Kings continue their road trip Friday at Kelowna.

In Quebec City, Jerome Gauthier-Leduc recorded two shots on goal and was stopped in his shootout attempt as Team QMJHL lost game #2 of the Subway Super Series to Russia, 5-4. The win gives Russia a sweep over the QMJHL with as they move on to face the OHL for the a pair of games beginning Thursday in Ottawa. Leduc, who was unable to notch a point in the two-game mini-audition for Hockey Canada brass, will return to action Friday as Rimouski travels to Shawinigan.

    With Southorn already out from the 2008 draft, it is also safe to say that Fienhage and Jokinen have no shot at making the Sabres. It still shapes out to be a nice draft with Myers, Ennis, Adam, and also Lagace and Crawford.Nice draft…

    From the 2009 draft, I like to see the Sabres taking their time with Kassian. I see him in the same class as Tavaras and Duschene. I'm glad the Sabres called up Tropp because it gave more time for Kassian to mature and develop into the power forward we all see him becoming. Tropp will be great 3rd liner like Gaustad has become, but Kassian has the potential to be on the top line for years to come.Just pair him up with Foligno.And put Adam in the middle…Cheers

    On Joel Armia, I like the fact that the Penguins let Malkin stay in Russia 2 years after he was drafted, and then bring him directly to the NHL. ( The 2nd year was the strike year. )I'd like to see Buffalo do the same with Armia.I like the idea of him bypassing Rochester and staying in Finland next year, but bring him right to Buffalo the following year and give him a shot.

    Joel Armia is a terrible and wasted draft pick. The Sabres need to stay away from the European picks unless they are a sure fire super super star.
