Joel Armia scored a goal Wednesday as Finland completed their World Junior Championship pre-work with a 3-0 win over Slovakia. The 6’3 wing scored the game’s final goal when he accepted a pass from Miikka Salomaki and flipped it over the Slovakina netminder. Finland opens the 2012 World Junior Championship on the 26th versus Canada.

Armia put a lot of pressure on himself this year (wanted to score 25) and was feeling it all when he didn't get off to a hot start. He then bubbled up with five goals in eight games before leaving for the U20s. Very intriguing offensive talent. Can blow down the wing, snipe, and can stand in front and tip pucks. Sound familiar? Patience with Armia could see the next #1 line winger in a Sabres uni in a few years if you're willing to accept inconsistent effort at times. It plagues young players and he's no different. Loads of talent. Needs to eliminate plays that look a little lazy. The good far outweighs the bad in my eyes.
