10/4 Recap: Lemieux nets career best; Brown shines

In Saturday night action, Brendan Lemieux posted two goals and a career-best four points as Barrie pasted Ottawa 9-3. Just like he did for his first goal of the season the night before, Lemieux scored both of his markers right at the edge of the crease en route to being named the game’s number two star. Draft eligible forward Travis Konecny potted his first goal of the year for the 67’s in defeat. The Colts visit London on Friday.

In the USHL, Christopher Brown (+3) scored twice and added an assist for his first-ever Junior A points to help Green Bay to a 4-3 overtime triumph of Chicago. The productive evening earned the Boston College commit the game’s number two star. The Gamblers get back to work Friday at Bloomington.

In WHL action, Brycen Martin got the puck deep for an assist on the overtime winner as Swift Current edged Victoria 2-1. The helper snapped Martin’s four-game point drought. The Broncos complete their week-long Western Conference road trip Tuesday in Kelowna.

In NCAA action, J.T. Compher recorded an assist as No. 7 Michigan opened the non-conference schedule with a 4-3 loss at No. 10 Ferris State. The Wolverines will next play host to the USA U-18 Team for a Monday exhibition.

Christian Isackson scored a goal and Hudson Fasching picked up a helper as No. 1 Minnesota earned a 5-0 exhibition shutout of CIS opponent Northern Alberta. The Gophers next face Minnesota-Duluth on Friday in the opening game of the 2014 IceBreaker at Notre Dame.
Judd Peterson (+1) notched an assist and three shots on goal as No. 6 St. Cloud State bounced Trinity Western 8-0 in an exhibition tilt. A 21-year old freshman, Peterson scored 27 goals and 57 points over the last two seasons with the USHL’s Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. The Huskies open the non-conference schedule next weekend when No. 5 Colgate comes to town.
In Rochester, Tim Schaller scored the game’s only goal and Nathan Lieuwen stopped all 18 shots as the Amerks closed the preseason with a 1-0 win over Toronto, Regular season action begins Friday at home Adirondack.
