OHL
Brendan Lemieux one-timed the game-winning goal as Barrie blanked Mississauga 3-0. Lemieux’s 30th of the year and 17th while on the power play snapped his season-high three-game goal drought. Lemieux hits the 30-goal mark in his 36th game, making him the quickest to 30 since Mikhail Grigorenko did it in 33 games in 2012-13. The Colts are at Oshawa on Sunday.
Nick Baptiste left midway through the second period after taking a dangerous high stick near the eye area as Erie got past North Bay 6-5 in overtime. Post-game reports suggest he did not suffer any damage, but his status is unknown at this time. Connor McDavid (’15) scored twice including the game-winner and added an assist to earn the game’s first star. Dylan Strome (’15) picked up three helpers, while fellow draft eligible Travis Dermott added a goal and an assist. Next up for the Otters is a Friday visit to Guelph.
Eric Cornel finished with a minus-two rating and was stopped in his shootout attempt as Peterborough was defeated by Ottawa 3-2. Cornel has one goal in 15 games since December 1, and a season total of 30 points (9+21) through 39 contests. The teams complete the home-and-home series Sunday in Ottawa.
QMJHL
Vaclav Karabacek missed his second straight game with a lower body injury as Baie-Comeau earned a 4-3 victory over Shawinigan. Karabacek has 28 points (12+16) this season, including three in six games since being traded to the Drakkar.
NCAA
Brown freshman Max Willman (-3) continued to fill in as a defenseman as the Bears were bested by Yale 5-1. Willman will look to snap a 12-game point drought on Friday when Brown visits Clarkson.
Sean Malone sat out for a third game in a row as Harvard suffered their third loss of the year 5-1 to St. Lawrence. The Crimson will look to get back in the win column Friday at Cornell.
SHL
Gustav Possler (-2, 2 SOG) notched an assist as MODO was defeated by Laksands IF 4-3. Victor Olofsson (-1) recorded one shot on goal in 7:38 of action, while goaltender Linus Ullmark remained out of the lineup as he nurses a groin injury.
AHL
Mikhail Grigorenko scored a pair of goals as Rochester closed out a Texas road trip with a 5-3 loss to San Antonio. Grigorenko, who earned the game’s third star, has five points in his last two games. Zac Dalpe added a single for the Amerks, while Jake McCabe picked up an assist to give him points in three of his last four contests. Joel Armia returned to action for the first time since Dec. 27, logging a minus-two rating and no shots.
ECHL
Colin Jacobs registered one assist but failed to score in his shootout attempt as Elmira fell to Reading 4-3. Jacobs has nine points (4+5) in 24 coast league tilts.
