1/30 Recap: Cornel comes through; Fasching excels

Eric Cornel
scored his 12th goal of the year and added an assist as Peterborough
stunned Oshawa 5-4 in overtime. Cornel’s 10th multi-point effort of the season extends his point
streak to five games for the Petes, who have now won three straight games.

Nick Baptiste recorded two assists as Erie held on for a 3-2 win at Kingston. The helpers give Baptiste 27 points (11+16) in 22 games with the Otters.

QMJHL

Vaclav Karabacek notched three shots on goal as Baie-Comeau came up short 8-5 at Moncton. Through 10 games with the Drakkar, Karabacek has produced two goals and two assists.

WHL

Sam Reinhart scored his 12th goal and assisted on the overtime winner as Kootenay earned a 4-3 victory over Regina. The winning output gives Reinhart points in 10 straight contests.

Brycen Martin (-3) notched one assist as Saskatoon was bested by Swift Current 6-2. Martin elevated his game of late, producing seven points in his first eight games with the Blades.

NCAA

Hudson Fasching snatched one goal and one assist as part of an excellent individual performance as Minnesota won a wild 7-5 shootout at Wisconsin. Fasching’s first multi-point game since opening night gives him seven goals and 12 points entering Saturday’s rematch. Christian Isackson did not factor for the Gophers, while Brad Navin picked up his fifth point of the year, an assist, for the losing side.

Anthony Florentino picked up a pair of assists for his first multiple point game of the year as Providence was edged by Boston College 3-2. Florentino has turned it up with two goals and seven points in 10 games since the Holiday break. Fifth-year defenseman Mark Adams did not factor for the Friars

Cal Petersen started for the fifth straight game, stopping eight of 11 shots before being replaced in the second period as Notre Dame dropped a 5-2 decision to New Hampshire. Connor Hurley (-1) was unable to produce as the Fighting Irish lost their third third game in a row.

Judd Peterson contributed two shots on goal as St. Cloud State pummeled Colorado College 7-1. Peterson has collected two goals in nine games since the break.

J.T. Compher recorded three shots on goal as Michigan was defeated by Michigan State 2-1. Compher has collected one goal and one assist in six games since returning from the World Junior Championship.

Max Willman finished with a minus-one rating as Brown was defeated 5-3 by Quinnipiac. The struggling Bears have now lost eight of nine January games.

Sean Malone remained out of action due to injury as Harvard was defeated by Union 5-4.

SHL

Linus Ullmark stopped 32 of 33 shots but received no goal support as MODO was defeated by Orebro HK 1-0. Victor Olofsson finished with a minus-one rating. Gustav Possler missed a second straight game.

AHL

Brayden Irwin scored twice and Andrey Makarov made 27 saves as Rochester lost at Syracuse 6-4. Phil Varone and Evan Rankin provided singles for the Amerks. Jake McCabe, Dan Catenacci and Tim Schaller earned assists in the game. Mikhail Grigorenko was hit and left the game with an apparent lower body injury and did not return.

ECHL

Justin Kea got into his fourth professional scrap as Elmira got past Fort Wayne 2-1. Colin Jacobs recorded two shots on goal for the Jackals.
