When Ryerson Leenders was drafted by the Sabres in the seventh round (219th overall) this past June, he effectively put himself on a journey to Buffalo.

And now he has found himself about a hour closer without even playing a game.

On Thursday, the Brampton Steelheads announced that they traded the highly regarded goaltender to the Brantford Bulldogs in exchange for eight future selections at the OHL Priority Draft, including three second-rounders and a trio of third-round picks.

Leenders, who is slated to be the undisputed starting netminder with the Bulldogs, heads to Brantford coming off an excellent 2023-24 season that saw him record 24 wins and three shutouts in 46 starts, while posting a 3.12 GAA and a league-best .909 save%.

The Nanticoke, Ontario native slipped into the Bulldogs uniform for the first time Sunday, stopping 34 of 37 shots in 4-3 shootout loss to Kitchener.

Leenders and his newly wrapped pads will make the short trip down the QEW in a couple of weeks when he’ll share the Sabres net with Seattle Thunderbirds stalwart Scott Ratzlaff at the 2024 Prospects Challenge.
