Freshman forward Brodie Ziemer netted his first collegiate points Friday, picking up goal and an assist to help Minnesota to a 7-5 victory over Minnesota Duluth.
Ziemer got the Gophers on the board on his first shift of the game with a nice toe-drag and release.
Zeimer has started the year on a line centered by Oliver Moore (CHI), perhaps setting the stage for the duo to develop chemistry as potential linemates for the United States at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship. The pair did see time together on a line over the summer at the World Junior Summer Showcase.
Aaron Huglen also got in on the action for the Gophers, burying a rebound for his first goal of the season. Freshman defenseman Adam Kleber recorded one shot on goal for Duluth in defeat.
Elsewhere in the NCAA, sophomore Gavin McCarthy (-1) continued in his spot on Boston University’s top defensive pair as the Terriers doubled Connecticut 4-2. Huskies forward Jake Richard saw his season-opening four-game point streak halted in the loss.
In an exhibition contest, Maxim Strbak and Patrick Geary continued to serve as Michigan State’s top defensive pair as the Spartans blanked USPorts opponent Windsor 5-0.
AHL
Anton Wahlberg and Konsta Helenius scored their first goals of the season as Rochester allowed four unanswered tallies in a 4-2 loss to Toronto.
Wahlberg got things started, breaking up a Marlies PP rush and taking it all the way down for the five-hole finish to put the Amerks ahead 1-0.
The marker was Wahlberg’s second-ever AHL goal and the first shortie of his professional career.
Helenius scored the first goal of his North American professional career early in the middle frame, taking a pass from Viktor Neuchev and connecting from the sharp angle to give Rochester a 2-0 advantage.
The assist gives Neuchev a season-opening three-game point streak.
SWEDEN
Topias Leinonen returned to the lineup following his one-game absence, stopping 35 shots as Mora was edged by Kalmar 3-2. Leinonen, who has emerged as Mora’s top goaltending option this season, falls to 4-2-0 with a 2.20 GAA and .909 save%.
Joel Ratkovic-Berndtsson, who joined Vasterviks IK earlier this week for a one-month tryout contract, scored his first goal of the season in a 9-0 blowout of IK Pantern.

Viljami Marjala saw his four-game point streak end as TPS lost to IFK Helsinki 4-2. Turku’s leading point-getter a season ago, Marjala has collected 10 points (3+7) through his first eight games. The playmaking pivot missed TPS’ first six games due to injury.
WHL
Scott Ratzlaff celebrated the signing of his first NHL contract with a 21-save performance in Seattle’s 4-1 loss at Brandon. Ratzlaff’s first defeat of the season drops him to 4-1-0-0 woth a 3.00 GAA and .917 save%.
QMJHL
Defenseman Simon-Pier Brunet logged a plus-2 rating while provided three shots on goal as Drummondville rolled past Victoriaville 8-2.
USHL
Vasily Zelenov recorded an assist as Green Bay defeated Sioux City 5-2. Zelenov has been steady in his adjustment to North American hockey, producing one goal and seven total points in his first eight contests.
Luke Osburn recorded one shot on goal in Youngstown’s 3-0 home-ice loss to Lincoln.
