Ziemer scores again; Miedema stays warm

Freshman forward Brodie Ziemer scored his second goal of the season Saturday as No. 6 Minnesota earned the road sweep with a 5-1 win over Minnesota Duluth.

Ziemer found space in the middle of the ice to operate midway through the opening period as he connected on a feed from Oliver Moore (CHI) to score the first goal of the game for the second-consecutive night.

Aaron Huglen registered a minus-1 for the winning side, while freshman defenseman Adam Kleber recorded two shots on goal for Duluth in defeat.

AHL

Tyson Kozak scored his second goal of the season as the Rochester Americans lost in Toronto 3-2.

Kozak earned his goal by beating his check to the rebound of a Ryan Johnson point shot late in the opening frame, but for the second straight day, the Amerks took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission only to allow a series of unanswered goals to lose the game.

Johnson, Nikita Novikov, and Anton Wahlberg picked up assists in the loss. Viktor Neuchev saw his season-opening three-game point streak come to halt.

The Amerks were unable to connect on any of their seven power plays in the loss, and have now matched the parent Sabres by failing to produce on 21 consecutive opportunities to begin the season.

OHL

Ethan Miedema picked up a goal and an assist for his second multiple point game of the season as Kingston was upended by Brantford 4-3 in overtime.

Miedema started last season hot, netting a pair of goals in his season debut as he began the year on a five-game point streak (4+4). He quickly cooled, though, finding the net just twice in his next 18 contests. So far so good as he looks to avoid a repeat of that dry spell. He is a point-per-game player with six goals and three helpers through nine contests.

Ryerson Leenders made 23 saves for the Bulldogs to pick up his third-straight victory. He improves to 3-2-0-0 on the year with a 3.37 GAA and .892 save%.

WHL

Scott Ratzlaff came on in relief late in the middle frame, stopping 12 of 13 shots in 22:50 of work as Seattle was blown out by Regina 8-0. Ratzlaff remains at 3-1-0-0 while moving to a 2.97 GAA and .918 save%.

USHL

Vasily Zelenov (-1) recorded a season-high four shots on goal, and defenseman Norwin Pacocha logged a minus-1 in his Gamblers debut Green Bay was blanked by Sioux City 2-0.

Wisconsin commit Luke Osburn produced a season-best five shots on goal as Youngstown lost 3-2 at Lincoln.

SHL

Linus Sjödin logged 12:33 as Rögle’s fourth line centerman in a 4-1 vitory ove Linköping.

William Von Barnekow received his usual work load with 11:59 time on ice as Malmö dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Örebro.
