5/1 Recap: Uno de Myers

Tyler Myers buried the game winning goal on the power play and added two assists as Kelowna took game #1 of the WHL Finals from Calgary, 3-1.

With the game tied 1-1 midway through the third period, Myers took a Jamie Benn pass and pumped a shot through heavy traffic to give the Rockets a 2-1 lead. The goal was Myers fifth of the playoffs.

Producing offense while sturdy on the blueline, the native Calgarian was named the game’s #1 star. Mark Guggenburger (free agent) was excellent in the Rockets net, while faceoff ace Cody Almond (MIN) and Benn (DAL) paced the forwards.

The puck drops for game #2 on Saturday.

In the QMJHL Final, Drummondville set a record by winning their 20th straight game (7 in regular season, 13 in playoffs) with a 2-1 win over Shawinigan. The victory gives the Voltigeurs a 1-0 series edge.

In the OHL Final, Windsor took a 2-0 series lead by defeating Brampton, 5-3.

    He might be listed as a Calgary native, but I always get a bit of USA pride when I think about how he was born in Texas ^_^

    All I have to say is that it will be an absolute travesty if they don’t at least give Myers a 10 game tryout next season.

    I believe he’s up around 220 right now.He will be inked. No question about it.

    no reason for him to play anywhere else then the blue and gold next yearbetween hank being lost, lydmans stupid penalties, teppo is what 57 years old, spacek is a free agent who decided to play hard the last 20 games of his contractIMO move hank and lydmansign a vetand let weber or grags take one spot and groom myers with rivet

    Anon 4:36,Myers is a rightie, just like Rivet. Keeping him on the right would be better for his development and keeping Rivet on the right would be better for the team overall.Having a stabilizing left-side vet for him would be a great addition — although I think the team might have Lydman in mind for that role.

    How can he have gained weight during the season. Almost all player lose weight as the long, grinding season move’s on. Though maybe in the bus leagues, where players have all day to eat poorly, bad weight can be gained. I doubt he is putting on lean muscle mass.krt88

    Gainging weight as muscle….you dont lose that as the season goes on

    Butler – RivetSekera – WeberLydman/new Veteran – MyersI’d like Lydman gone but I hope they feel the same way. We’ll have to see what happens with Weber. I like that he brings toughness but again I hope they feel the same way.

    do you think players are spending lots of time lifting during the season? Please, all hockey players talk about weigh loss as the season grows longer. You work out every day but you’re not building muscle mass, your conditioning and toning and trimming body fat.krt88

    Regardless of the present, just think of what Doug McKenney is going to do with this kid. He’s grown nearly an inch since he was drafted and has a ton of real estate to play with. The obvious areas will be targeted, but I hope the wrists and forearms get some attention to snap crispier passes and serve more whip on the shot.
