Sabres ink Adam

Sources close to both sides of the equation are indicating that Luke Adam has been signed to a three-year entry-level contract by the Buffalo Sabres. Adam, who recently finished second in voting for QMJHL MVP after a 49-goal campaign in Cape Breton, will head to Portland to join the Pirates in preparation for the start of the AHL playoffs.

Adam, 19, comes to the Sabres after a dominating second half that saw him return from Team Canada’s silver medal winning performance at the 2010 World Junior Championships to score 24 goals in the Eagles’ final 23 games. The 6’2 center totaled 90 points in all to finish fifth in QMJHL scoring while his 1.61 points-per-game was tops in the league.

The St. John’s, Newfoundland native can play center and left wing while contributing down low on the power play. Adam, who approaches the game with “a passion for scoring goals”, lit the lamp with a respectable 17.8 shooting percentage this past season to set the table for a professional entry.

  2. Actually, Luke and I aren't 'friends' on fb but I understand he made mention of it on his page. Social networking has certainly changed the game! haha. Good for Luke. He is very deserving of the job, and I think he'll pan out just fine. He realizes he can't be sleepy away from the puck as he moves up the ladder. I'd love to see him stay at center as the depth and size are thin, but we'll see. Either way, he's been a favorite of this space dating back to when Allard was showing traces of life. Good stuff.

What will become of Legault? Do we play the waiting game? I'd hate to see a tougher prospect go to waste regardless of what round he was drafted.

  4. Legault was excellent in that first round loss to Moncton. I'd prefer he was brought in for AHL depth next season to round things out. Good character, very good physical presence. Not sure about immediate plan.

  5. Hey Macksayev, what's Luke saying on his page anyways? Assuming he's pretty pumped to have this not lingering.

how much money? is it the typical 875,000 per year for three years? does the contract begin now, or in 2010-11?

  9. 3:31 – ATO for this season. NHL deal kicks in next season. Money not yet announced, but I'd guess it is in the neighborhood of 825-875K (the max) per year.
