McCabe masterful as Americans advance

Jake McCabe continued his exceptional all-situations play at the 2013 World Junior Championship Monday, netting a goal and an assist as USA advanced to the quarterfinal round with 9-3 shellacking of Slovakia.

The mobile defender gave the Americans a 2-1 lead when he cut to the net and buried a backhand off a nice feed from John Gaudreau at 5:10 of the opening period.

McCabe, who saw the majority of his even-strength time with Seth Jones (’13), would later make a neutral zone pass to earn a secondary assist on Gaudreau’s power play goal at 4:55 of the second period.

The victory gives the USA a third place finish in Group B. Their next opponent will be known after the completion of Group A’s final round robin match between Finland and Sweden.

  1. bakes…no matter how well mccabe plays, he'll never be as good as seth jones…everything jones does is otherworldly…in fact, the announcers probably called that neutral zone pass by jones one of the best passes in the history of hockey and that only he could've made it.right?

  2. Yes, SJN's coverage of the WJCs has been interesting for sure. Seth Jones Network. Good player but enough already!

The Sabres 2012 draft may prove to be one of their best ever.
